What Is WMU?

WMU's main purpose has been to educate and involve women in christian-based missions. WMU is a auxillary of the Southern Baptist Convention, meaning that it acts as an aide to the SBC. WMU is self-governing and self-supporting. WMU supports itself through the sale of magazines and products and from investments. WMU is the largest Protestant missions organization focused on women in the world. Right now the approximated membership is around one million.

The Calvary chapter of WMU meets every 2nd Monday of the month at 10:00 A.M..

Some of the missions projects that our ladies have sponsored are:

Christmas Shopping Spree at Brian Nursing Home. Church members are asked to donate gifts, then the WMU go to the nursing home and allows each resident the opportunity to choose gifts to give to thir family members. After the gifts are chosen the WMU ladies wrap and label the gifts for the residents.
Shoeboxes for Samaritans Purse allows us to send needed items to children who are overseas.
Mission Coordinators prepare tea cups filled with tea bags, mints, etc. to give to each new lady who joins our church.

Girls In Action

What is it?

Girls in Action is a missions organization for girls who are age 6 - 11 or ingrades 1 through 6. GA helps girls in our church begin to develop spiritually towards a missions lifestyle as they learn what God is doing in the world. Even more exciting is watching them discover their place in God's plan.

Acteens

What is it?

A mission organization where teenage girls in grades 6-12 can actively participate and grow toward becoming all they were created to be.

Purpose of it?

M eeting needs of hurting people

I ndividual accountability

S erving others in His name

S haring a verbal witness

I nvolvement in missions, praying and giving

O bedience in His mandate to go

N urturing others in love

S piritually growing more like Christ

What do we do?

study the Bible in relation to what it teaches about missions
learn about the world with emphasis on God's people at work to carry out His plans
experience opportunities to use our gifts to care for others and to share the gospel in a variety of ways

When do we meet?

Monday's at 6:30 p.m.

Activities for Teens in Action:

Face Painting at our community festivals.
Church leaders, friends & others needing a little encouragement are showered with Love Baskets.
Every December Acteens have a blast volunteering at Operation Christmas Child and a plus is getting to leave school early.
Acteens have gone South of the Border and presented the International Mission Study to the church.
During a visit to a Children's Hospital, children received stuffed animals from Acteens.
Handmade Valentine pockets filled with Huggy Bear cookies were given out at Brian Center Nursing Home.
Dinner & A Movie was hosted, cooked & served up by Acteens to purchase soap for the children of Haiti.
A Hot, Hot (it was in July) Backyard Bible Bash was a fun time for the neighborhood kids & the Acteens.
A church-wide Candlelight Prayer Service, praying for the people of India, was conducted by Acteens.
An Acteens Spring Car Wash raised money for mission projects.
